Why Stems Beat Random Word Lists
A stem is a group of 6 letters that combines with many different 7th letters to form valid words. Instead of memorizing individual words, you learn one stem and unlock 8-20 bingos at once.

The Priority Tier System
Not all stems are equal. Prioritize by how often the letters appear in your rack (based on tile distribution) and how many valid bingos they produce.

The Spaced Repetition Method
Research shows that information is best retained when reviewed at expanding intervals. Apply this to stem learning with this schedule.
📅 Review Schedule
Day 0: Learn stem + all valid 7th letters. Write them down.
Day 1: Recall from memory. Check against list. Mark missed ones.
Day 3: Full recall test. Any stem below 80% goes back to Day 1.
Day 7: Weekly review. Stems above 90% move to monthly review.
Day 14+: Maintenance review. If any slip, reset to Day 3.
Active Recall Drills
Passive reading doesn't work. Use these active techniques to build deep recall.
Alphagram drill: Write the stem as an alphagram (letters in order). Given AEINST, list every valid 7th letter that makes a bingo.
Reverse drill: See a 7-letter word (NASTIER). Identify which stem it contains (SATINE + R, RETINA + S, TISANE + R).
Random rack test: Draw 7 tiles. Can you spot a stem? Which 7th letter completes it? Time yourself under 30 seconds.
Missing letter drill: Given SATIN_ + E, what 7th letters work? (B, D, E, G, L, N, O, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Z)

Common Mistakes to Avoid
✗ Learning too many at once
Adding 20 stems in one session means forgetting 15 by next week. Stick to 5 new per week maximum.
✗ Only reading, never testing
Passive review creates familiarity, not recall. Always test yourself without looking at the answers.
✗ Skipping low-frequency stems
Rare stems still produce bingos. The game you win by knowing OATERS+D = ROASTED might be a tournament final.
