Is FY a Scrabble Word? No — NOT Valid in Either Dictionary
Looking to play FY in Scrabble? Unfortunately, it won't work. FY is invalid in both TWL and SOWPODS — neither dictionary recognizes it. But don't worry: there are several valid 2-letter F words that score just as well. Here's why FY doesn't make the cut and what to play instead.

Why FY Isn't Valid
⚠️ Why It Fails
While "fy" appears as an archaic interjection in some historical texts (expressing disgust, similar to "fie"), it was never formally adopted into either the TWL or Collins Scrabble dictionaries. The lexicographers decided it lacked sufficient documented independent usage as a standalone word.
Valid 2-Letter F Words to Play Instead
These F words are all legitimate and score well thanks to the F tile being worth 4 points:
FA — 5 points (Both Dictionaries)
The fourth note of the musical solfège scale. Valid everywhere — your safest F play.
FE — 5 points (Both Dictionaries)
A Hebrew letter (also spelled "pe"). Valid in TWL and SOWPODS — completely safe.
FI — 5 points (SOWPODS Only)
A variant of the musical note TI. Only valid in Collins — check your dictionary first.

Strategy Tips for F Tiles
Premium squares: F is worth 4 points — landing it on a double letter square gives you 8 points from one tile. Combine with FA on a DLS for 9+ points.
Default to FA: When in doubt, FA is always safe. Valid in both dictionaries and creates useful hooks (FAD, FAN, FAT, FAX).
Longer F words: If you can't make a 2-letter play work, consider FIG (7pts), FEW (9pts), FOX (13pts), or FIX (13pts).
