Is OB a Scrabble Word? SOWPODS Only — NOT Valid in TWL

3 min read Word Finder

OB — a shortened form of "objection" — is one of those SOWPODS-exclusive words that gives international players an extra B-dump option. At 4 points, it's not flashy, but it's tactically useful when you need to shed a B tile in Collins games. North American players beware: OB is completely invalid in TWL.

4 points · O(1) + B(3) · An objection · SOWPODS only

OB is valid in Collins (international) but INVALID in TWL (North America). A useful B-tile outlet in SOWPODS games, especially when BO or BA don't fit the board position.

What Does OB Mean?

📖 Definition

OB is a noun meaning an objection. It's a British informal shortening — "No obs" meaning "no objections." Collins includes many informal shortenings that TWL considers too casual for competitive play.

All Two-Letter B Words

B is a solid 3-point tile with several two-letter options. OB adds one more for SOWPODS players:

OB vs BO: Mirror Words

OB — SOWPODS Only

O(1) + B(3) = 4pts. An objection. Only playable in Collins games. Use when BO doesn't fit the board layout.

BO — Both Dictionaries

B(3) + O(1) = 4pts. A type of fig tree (short for bodhi). Safe in any Scrabble game. Same score, different direction.

When to Play OB

Board position matters: When BO doesn't fit (B needs to go second), OB gives you the reverse option in SOWPODS games. Same 4 points, different letter order.

Cross-word creation: O is incredibly common on boards (8 tiles in the bag). Playing B adjacent to an existing O to form OB while your main word scores separately is a common tactic.

Endgame flexibility: Having OB as an additional B-word (beyond BO, BA, BE, BI, BY, AB) gives SOWPODS players more options for their final plays in tight board positions.
