Back hooks add a letter to the end of an existing word — the most common and intuitive hooks:
+S (Plural/Verb)
CARE→CARES, RUN→RUNS. Works on ~70% of words. Save S tiles for hooks.

PLAY→PLAYED, CARE→CARED. Creates 6-7 letter words from common bases.

Position near TWS: Play a word so its end is one square from a triple-word square. Next turn, hook with S and your new word crosses TWS for 3x scoring.
Use obscure front hooks: Most know CARE→CARES but few know LAUGHTER→SLAUGHTER. Study unusual front hooks for plays opponents won't see coming.
Hold S tiles: S is worth 1 point but its hooking power is worth 20+. Never play S unless it adds 8-10+ points over the next-best play without it.
