Tile tracking is the practice of monitoring which tiles have been played so you know what remains in the bag. Tournament players do this on a tracking sheet, crossing off letters as they appear on the board.

In the endgame (when the bag is empty), tile tracking tells you exactly what your opponent holds. This turns Scrabble from a game of probability into a game of perfect information — like chess. You can block their best plays and set up unstoppable moves.
Start simple: Track only the power tiles first (Q, Z, X, J, blanks, S tiles). As you get comfortable, expand to tracking all consonants, then vowels.
Pre-printed sheets: Use a tracking sheet with all 100 tiles listed. Cross off tiles as they appear on the board. Most tournament players use a columnar format sorted by letter.
Endgame power: When the bag is empty and you know all remaining tiles, you can calculate your opponent's exact rack. This lets you play defense (blocking) or offense (setting up unblockable plays).
Probability decisions: Midgame, knowing 8 of 12 E tiles are played means E is scarce — avoid words requiring E. Knowing the blank is still out means a bingo could appear any turn.
