Scrabble Words from Textiles — Fabric Terms That Score Big
Textile and fabric words are underrated in Scrabble. Many come from foreign languages — Hindi, French, Scottish — and carry unusual letter combinations that score surprisingly well. CHINTZ alone delivers 20 points with its Z tile, while KHAKI burns both K tiles in one go.

High-Scoring Fabric Words
CHINTZ — 20 Points
C=3, H=4, I=1, N=1, T=1, Z=10 · 6 letters · Z tile powerhouse
A printed cotton fabric with a glazed finish. CHINTZ is one of the best Z words in Scrabble — 6 letters, 20 points base score, and it uses the Z with otherwise common letters (C, H, I, N, T). On a double or triple word square, this becomes devastating.
🧵 KHAKI
16 pts · K=5, H=4, A=1, K=5, I=1 · Brownish-yellow fabric
🪡 VOILE
8 pts · V=4, O=1, I=1, L=1, E=1 · Sheer fabric
🧶 TWEED

Strategy for Textile Words
CHINTZ is your best Z play under 7 letters: At 20 points from 6 tiles (3.3 per tile), CHINTZ outscores most Z words. The surrounding letters (C, H, I, N, T) are all common, so you'll often have them when you draw the Z.
KHAKI uses both K tiles: There's only one K tile in the bag, so KHAKI requires a blank for the second K — or wait until you draw it naturally. But when it works, 16 points from 5 tiles is excellent rack clearance.
GAUZE for the Z without consonants: If you have the Z but lack consonants, GAUZE (15pts) uses mostly vowels around it. G=2, A=1, U=1, Z=10, E=1 — only one consonant needed.
💡 Key Insight
Textile words are Z and K specialists. CHINTZ, GAUZE, and KHAKI give you reliable plays for two of Scrabble's trickiest high-value tiles. Memorise these three and you'll never be stuck with Z or K on your rack again.
