A cutting tool with a bevelled blade. CHISEL's CH opening (7pts from two tiles) makes it efficient — the remaining 4 letters are all 1-pointers that appear frequently on the board. Hooks to CHISELS (12pts) and CHISELLED.

Strategy for Woodwork Words

CHISEL targets the CH pair: When you draw C and H together, CHISEL is a reliable 6-letter play. The remaining tiles (I, S, E, L) are the four most common letters in the bag — you'll often have them available.

DOWEL burns the W tile: W (4pts) is notoriously hard to place. DOWEL uses it with four common 1-2 point tiles, guaranteeing 9 points and clearing the W from your rack for better draws.

CLAMP stacks three 3-pointers: C (3pts), M (3pts), and P (3pts) in one 5-letter word. That's 9 points from three consonants plus 2 from A and L. On a DWS, CLAMP hits 22 points.

💡 Key Insight

Woodworking words are built around W, H, and C tiles — the 3-4 point consonants that block rack flexibility. DOWEL, CHISEL, and LATHE clear them efficiently. JOINERY (17pts) is the sleeper hit if you draw J.
