Scrabble Words With Prefix DIS- — Negation & Reversal
DIS- is the power-negation prefix that pairs with the two highest-value tiles in Scrabble. DISQUALIFY uses Q(10)+Y(4)+F(4) for a massive 24 points, DISQUIET employs Q(10) for 18 points, and DISJOINT leverages J(8) for 16 points. The prefix costs only 4 points (D+I+S) but unlocks some of the strongest front-hook plays in the game.

DIS- Prefix Strategy
Q-tile partner: DISQUIET and DISQUALIFY are among the highest-scoring Q words. When you draw Q with U, check if D+I+S can extend it. DIS- makes Q manageable rather than a rack-clogger.
Hook QUALIFY, QUIET, JOINT: If your opponent plays QUALIFY, QUIET, or JOINT, hook DIS- in front. Three tiles for the entire word's value. This is devastating with Q and J base words already on the board.
Bingo-range sweet spot: DISQUIET (8), DISJOINT (8), DISPROVE (8) all hit bingo length. DIS- + 5-letter base = 8 letters = 50-point bonus. Hold D+I+S when you see strong 5-letter words forming.
💡 Key Insight
DIS- is the strongest prefix for Q and J tile management. DISQUALIFY (24pts) and DISQUIET (18pts) turn the feared Q tile into a weapon. DISJOINT (16pts) does the same for J. When you draw Q or J, always check DIS- combinations first.
