Short -ER Words for Tight Boards
Three-letter -ER words are perfect for parallel plays and tight corners. HER, FER, and VER all score 6 points in just 3 tiles. They also accept front-hooks extensively: HER becomes USHER, FISHER, WASHER — turning a short word into a full-length play.

Strategy Tips
Hook existing words: Almost any verb on the board can take -ER. See PLAY on the board? Add ER to make PLAYER. See CHECK? Add ER for CHECKER (18 pts). This is one of the most reliable hook strategies in Scrabble.
