Words With Four Vowels in a Row — Unusual Scrabble Plays
Most English words alternate vowels and consonants predictably. But some break the rules spectacularly — stacking four or more vowels in sequence. These oddities are practical tools for dumping excess vowels without sacrificing points.

Strategic Vowel Dumping
💡 Vowel Dump Strategy
When your rack has 5+ vowels, these words let you offload 4 in one play. Compare: exchanging 4 tiles (0 points, lose turn) vs playing QUEUE (14 points, keep momentum).
Queue the Q: QUEUE solves two problems — uses your Q without needing QI placement, and dumps four vowels simultaneously.
EAUX endings: French-origin plurals like PLATEAUX and TABLEAUX contain four consecutive vowels and score well with the X.
Rack awareness: Track vowels drawn. If you have 5+ vowels after your first two turns, look for these plays immediately.
Parallel plays: Short vowel words (AA, OE, AI) can create setups that make longer vowel-dumps possible on adjacent rows.
Words Containing All Five Vowels
These special words use every vowel at least once — the ultimate vowel dumps.

| SEQUOIA | 16 | All 5 | Giant redwood tree |
| EULOGIA | 8 | All 5 | Blessed breads |
| MIAOUED | 10 | All 5 | Past tense of miaou |
| OUABAIN | 9 | 4 of 5 | A toxic compound |

When to Use Vowel-Heavy Words

Ideal vowel count
✓ Play Them When
Your rack has 5+ vowels and few consonants. You can score 10+ points while fixing your rack balance for next turn.
✗ Avoid When
Your rack is balanced (3-4 vowels). Dumping vowels when balanced risks drawing into a consonant-heavy rack next turn.
Early game: Vowel dumps are safest in the first 5 turns when the bag is full and you are likely to draw a balanced replacement.
Late game: Track remaining tiles. If the bag is consonant-heavy, dumping vowels is risky — you might draw all consonants.
Score threshold: Only play a vowel dump if it scores at least 8-10 points. Below that, exchanging 4 tiles might give better rack quality.
