What's the difference between SOWPODS and TWL?
SOWPODS combines the British and American word lists into one comprehensive dictionary used internationally. TWL (Tournament Word List) is the smaller North American-only dictionary. SOWPODS contains all TWL words plus ~80,000 additional words.
Which dictionary should I use?
If you play in international tournaments or casual games outside North America, use SOWPODS. If you play in NASPA-sanctioned tournaments in the US/Canada, use TWL. For casual play, SOWPODS gives you more valid words.
How often is the Scrabble dictionary updated?
Collins updates SOWPODS approximately every 3-4 years. NASPA updates the NWL (formerly TWL) on a similar cycle. Our database reflects the latest official versions of both dictionaries.
