When to Play GI (SOWPODS Games Only)
GI is a low-scoring word. Its value comes from tactical board positioning, not raw points:
Parallel play enabler: GI fits into tight board spaces where longer words can't reach. Place it parallel to an existing word for crossword bonuses that exceed its 3-point base value.
G-tile dump: When your rack is clogged with consonants and no longer G words are available, GI lets you dump G quickly. I is the second most common tile (9 copies), so there's usually an I on the board to hook onto.
Setup for premium squares: Play GI near a Triple Word square to force your opponent to either block it or let you extend GI into GIN, GIG, or GIST on the premium square next turn.

In TWL-only games, GO is your only valid 2-letter G word. If you attempt GI in a North American tournament, it will be challenged successfully and you lose your turn. Always know which dictionary your game uses.
