Scrabble Words With Double S — S-Tile Management
S tiles are Scrabble gold — worth 1 point on paper but 8-10 points strategically because they hook onto existing words. So when should you spend two S's in one word? Only when the double-S play scores big enough to justify the cost. ASSESS, POSSESS, BASSOON, and BOSSIER are the plays that make it worthwhile.

S-Tile Management Strategy
S tiles are hooks first: Each S can add 10-20 points by pluralizing an existing word. Before using S inside a word, ask: "Can I hook this S onto something already played?" If yes, the hook almost always wins.
Double-S for bingos only: POSSESS and BASSOON are 7 letters — they earn the 50-point bonus. A 61-point POSSESS (11+50) absolutely justifies using 4 S tiles. Without the bingo, it's rarely worth it.
Premium square exception: ASSESS on a TWS = 36 points from common tiles. If you can land a double-S word on premium squares AND no good hooks exist, take it.
✓ Worth Using Double-S
Bingo play (+50), premium square hit (TWS), no hook opportunities on board
✗ Save S for Hooks
High-value words on board to pluralize, open premium squares, early game
💡 Key Insight
With only 4 S tiles in the bag, every S used inside a word is one you can't hook. Rule of thumb: only play double-S words when they score 25+ (with bingo or premium squares) or when no hook opportunities exist.
