Play UNDER early, extend later: Drop UNDER on your first or second turn in a position where the word can be extended. If someone plays CUT later and it aligns, you can form UNDERCUT for massive points. Even adding S to make UNDERS keeps options open.
Front-hook existing words: Scan the board for words like DOG, BID, CUT, FED, PIN, PAY, WAY, TOW, AGE, LINE. Adding UNDER in front creates valid plays. You only need 5 tiles to turn a 3-letter word into an 8-letter monster.
Reach Triple Word squares: UNDER words at 8+ letters easily span the distance from center to edge TW squares. UNDERDOG starting at column 4 reaches TW at column 1 — tripling the entire word. That is 8×3 + 50 = 74+ points.
