Words Worth Over 20 Points in Scrabble — Power Plays
Most Scrabble words score 8-15 points. But a select group of words crack 20+ points from tile values alone — before premium squares even apply. These power plays combine multiple high-value tiles into devastating single turns. Put JAZZY on a Double Word Score and you're looking at 66 points. Put QUARTZ across a Triple and you've scored 72 in one play. Here's the complete arsenal.

The 30+ Point Club
Only a handful of words crack 30 base points. All require either a blank tile (for duplicate high-value letters) or multiple power tiles drawn together.
JAZZY
33 base points • J(8) + A(1) + Z(10) + Z(blank=0) + Y(4) • Requires blank tile
The practical king of Scrabble scoring. While theoretical plays like PIZZAZZ score higher, JAZZY is realistic — you only need J, Z, blank, and common tiles A and Y. On a Double Word Score: 66 points. On a Triple Word Score: 99 points from just 5 tiles.
| Word | Base | on DWS | on TWS | Blank Needed? |

| JAZZY | 33 | 66 | 99 | Yes (2nd Z) |
| FIZZY | 29 | 58 | 87 | Yes (2nd Z) |
| FUZZY | 29 | 58 | 87 | Yes (2nd Z) |
| BUZZY | 28 | 56 | 84 | Yes (2nd Z) |
The 24-29 Point Range
These words are more practical because many don't require blank tiles. They use natural tile combinations you'll actually draw in competitive games.

Strategy: When to Chase Power Words
Behind by 30+: When you're losing by a significant margin, power words are your comeback mechanism. A single QUARTZ on DWS (48 pts) can close a 40-point gap in one turn.
Premium squares are open: Don't play QUIZ for 22 points on a normal square when a Triple Word Score is one turn away. Hold the Q/Z for a turn and score 66+ instead. Patience with power tiles pays double.
Endgame dump: If the game is ending and you're holding Z or Q, play any valid word immediately — even ZA (11) or QI (11). Unplayed tiles subtract from your score at game end. A 20-point word in the last 3 turns is better than holding out for 30.
