Bingo Racks to Memorise
Scrabble Words Finder · 2-letter words
A bingo — using all 7 tiles in one turn — earns a 50-point bonus that can swing any game. The difference between players who bingo once a game and those who bingo three times often comes down to one thing: knowing which tile combinations are most productive. Here are the racks worth committing to memory.
Why Memorising Stems Works
A "bingo stem" is a 6-letter combination that produces many valid 7-letter words when paired with a single extra tile. Instead of memorising thousands of individual bingos, you memorise 20-30 stems and your brain does the rest — recognising the pattern on your rack in real time.
💡 Key Insight
The top 10 bingo stems account for over 400 valid bingos. Memorising just these ten gives you pattern recognition for roughly 1 in 5 bingo-capable racks you'll draw.
The Top 10 Bingo Stems
These 6-letter stems produce the most valid 7-letter words across both SOWPODS and TWL. The "bingo count" shows how many different tiles complete the stem into a valid word.

The Pattern: What Makes a Good Bingo Stem
Notice what the top stems have in common — they all share the "golden letters" that appear most frequently in English words.
✓ Good Stem Traits
Mix of common consonants (R, S, T, N, L) and vowels (A, E, I). Balanced 3:3 or 4:2 consonant-to-vowel ratio. No duplicate tiles.
✗ Weak Stem Traits
Power tiles (Q, Z, X, J) that limit combinations. Too many vowels (4+). Duplicate letters reducing flexibility. Rare consonants (V, W, K).

How to Memorise: The Anagram Method
The most effective way to internalise bingo stems is to memorise them as words themselves. SATIRE, RETINA, SALINE — these are already English words, making recall effortless. For stems that aren't words, create a mnemonic.
🧩 Memorisation Steps
Learn the top 10 stems as words: SATIRE, RETINA, SALINE, SORTIE, SENORA, ARIOSE, SALTIE, OATERS, LINERS, TONIES.
When you draw tiles, mentally sort them into alphabetical order and compare against your known stems.
If 5 or 6 of your tiles match a stem, focus your search — you only need to find the right extra letter placement.
Practice daily: shuffle 7 random tiles and time yourself finding the bingo. Aim for under 30 seconds.
Beyond the Top 10: Stems 11-20
Once you've locked in the top 10, expand to these next-tier stems. They appear slightly less often but still produce 30+ bingos each.
TERAIS (A E I R S T)
Alternate form of SATIRE — same letters, different anchor word for memory.
TORIES (E I O R S T)
Same as SORTIE — political word makes it memorable.
NAILER (A E I L N R)
38 bingos. Common tiles, easy to spot on rack.
SENIOR (E I N O R S)
36 bingos. EROSION, IRONIES, SENIORS all come from this.
TENORS (E N O R S T)
35 bingos. SNORTED, RODENTS, STONER come from this stem.
NESTOR (E N O R S T)
Same letters as TENORS — mythological name aids recall.
Rack Management for Bingos
Knowing the stems is only half the battle. You also need to manage your rack towards bingo-friendly leaves — the tiles you keep after playing.
Keep balanced vowels: Aim for 2-3 vowels on your rack at all times. Dumping all vowels kills bingo chances — stems need A, E, or I.
Prioritise golden consonants: R, S, T, N, L appear in 90% of bingo stems. Play away K, W, V, and duplicate letters when possible.
Sacrifice points for leaves: A 20-point play that leaves SATIR? on your rack is often better than a 30-point play that leaves QWK.
Use the blank wisely: A blank tile is your guaranteed bingo enabler. Never spend it on a 30-point word — save it for the 70+ point bingo play.
📊 Tournament Data
Players who memorise the top 20 stems average 2.8 bingos per game vs 1.1 for players who don't. That's an extra 85 points per game from bonus tiles alone.
