World Scrabble Championship (WSC)

The pinnacle of competitive Scrabble

Held since 1991, the WSC crowns the world's best English-language Scrabble player. 24+ Swiss-system rounds over 5 days, followed by a knockout final. Nigel Richards holds a record 5 titles. 100–150 players from 40+ countries compete for the crown.

WESPAC (WESPA Championship)

WESPA's flagship international title

Created in 2015 after a governance split, WESPAC is organized by WESPA (the player-governed body). Uses Collins Scrabble Words. The 2025 edition in Accra, Ghana features a $34,000 prize pool — the largest in championship history. Open to all WESPA-rated players worldwide.

National Scrabble Championship (NSC/SPC)

North America's premier Scrabble event

Running since 1978, the NSC (now called the Scrabble Players Championship) is where legends like Joe Edley and Nigel Richards made their names. Uses the TWL dictionary. Nigel Richards won 5 titles including 4 consecutively (2010–2013). Held annually in major US cities.

Causeway Challenge

The world's biggest Scrabble event by participation

Held annually in Bangkok, organized by Michael Tang. The 2026 edition attracted 440+ players from 30 countries — making it the largest rated Scrabble event ever. Features Premier Division (elite) through Division 6 (recreational). Unique team format with 5-player national teams. David Eldar won the 2026 Premier title.

World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC)

Where future champions are made

The WYSC has been held since 2006 for players under 18. Pakistan dominates the modern era with champions Ali Salman, Syed Imaad Ali, and Hasham Hadi Khan. Sri Lanka's Janul de Silva won 3 consecutive titles (2014–2016). Held in Malaysia, Australia, Dubai, and other locations worldwide.

Scrabble World Cup

Knockout drama — one loss and you're out

Unlike the Swiss-system WSC, the World Cup uses direct elimination brackets. This makes it more volatile and exciting — a single bad game ends your campaign. Held alongside WESPAC events. Nigel Richards won in 2019, David Eldar in 2017.

Junior World Scrabble Championship (JWSC)

Competing alongside the world's best

The JWSC is held at the same venue and time as the senior WSC — giving junior players direct exposure to elite-level competition. Winners like Syed Imaad Ali have gone on to qualify for the senior WSC main draw. Pakistan dominates with multiple recent champions.
