💡 Why So Rare?
English spelling rules virtually forbid Q at the end of words. In English, Q always precedes U (queen, quiet, quest). Q-ending words are all loanwords from Arabic (suq, waqf, talaq) or Hebrew (tsaddiq) where Q can stand independently.
Q-Ending Strategy
Emergency Q dump: If you draw Q without U, SUQ (12pts) is your lifeline. It uses only S, U, and Q — but wait, SUQ does use U. The key is it ends in Q, letting you dump Q as the final letter rather than needing QU at the start.
TRANQ for rack clearing: TRANQ uses 5 common tiles (T, R, A, N) with Q. If you have rack space and the right letters, TRANQ scores 14 and clears 5 tiles — great turnover for your next draw.
Challenge bait: Q-ending words look fake to most players. SUQ and TRANQ frequently draw challenges. If your opponent challenges incorrectly, they lose their turn — a 20+ point swing in your favour.
